HOW TO SAVE MORE AND USE THE POTENTIAL OF MODERN LIGHTING SOLUTIONS?
Only a few years ago, the small collection of available lighting solutions allowed to obtain a coherent night image of the city, and emphasize its individuality by using regional producers.
The current range of lighting options and solutions is constantly expanding. Technological development increases their efficiency, the number of combinations increases, there are more types of luminaires and their distribution, and control systems are becoming more and more complex. When there are thousands of possibilities and borders no longer limit us, it is both an opportunity and a threat.
For example, we’ve noticed that cities are starting to disappear into the darkness. LED technology allows you to direct the light exactly where it is needed, unfortunately, if used improperly, it leads to disturbances in the legibility and quality of the night space. Beautiful historic streets cease to be an attraction after dark.
Other negative consequences of incompetent use of LED technology is the provision of inadequate light, especially in terms of its intensity. An increase in the intensity of lighting on the roadway does not necessarily translate into an increase in the sense of security – often the opposite effect is obtained, in which the increase in the contrast between the roadway and its surroundings increases anxiety, crime and the number of accidents. Public dissatisfaction with the new light is growing. What’s more, operating costs are paradoxically increasing, people have more difficulty falling asleep (more reflected light enters residential windows, the sky becomes more light-polluted), and the circadian rhythm of animals is disturbed. The lack of a city-wide lighting plan results in chaotic modernization works, and as a consequence, lighting chaos and loss of night identity.
We see that many cities are choosing new, but ill-considered and suboptimal lighting. They do not use the full potential of energy reduction and often do not provide enough light to function optimally. Such replacement of luminaires with LEDs is a disservice to the city, which will be felt for the next few decades. This damage will be the result of many factors, such as the depreciation costs of the current modernization, the number of years of using an inefficient lighting installation, the availability of energy resources, the reduction of the city’s investment, tourist and residential attractiveness, as well as a decrease in the productivity of residents and the level of their satisfaction.
What is the most important factor influencing the future quality of lighting in urban spaces? Lighting planners lack the comprehensive tool to realize the full potential of LED technology. Although the city has a lot of useful data for lighting management, it is usually not easily accessible due to internal organisations, structures, distribution of data in different offices and storage of data in different forms.
The ILS application comprehensively combines all the knowledge you have into an intuitive, clear and useful whole. We assume that the city is already smart, and we want to help our clients catch the wind in their sails.
