WHAT IS A MASTERPLAN?

HOW TO CREATE A COHERENT CITY LIGHT PLAN?

A masterplan is a coherent lighting concept developed for a specific area, it may be only a housing estate, a district or the entire city. The aim of the Masterplan is to identify all these urban elements and highlight with light (both decorative and functional light) their importance in creating a night-time, orderly image of the agglomeration.

The result was the listing of the basic elements of the city’s spatial structure that emerged from this study: communication routes, areas, borders, focal points, squares and hallmarks of a given city (characteristic buildings).

WHAT HAPPENES WHEN CREATING A MASTERPLAN?

• Detailed city analysis
• Hierarchy of buildings
• Defining the concept of city illumination
• Rules and principles of city lighting
• Street cards – guidelines for technical lighting
• Facility cards – building lighting guidelines
• Web application – digital masterplan
• Black plan
• Light calculations using a 3D city model

The black plan illustrates the new structure of the city’s communication system and new color temperatures from above. The black plan makes the concept of the masterplan and the guidelines contained in the masterplan more legible.

Street and facility cards contain specific parameters for lighting and allow for quick preparation of a tender. Specific provisions regarding light included in street and building cards allow for quick verification of the existing and planned condition. Studies such as square cards were also created, which described recommendations for square lighting.

WHAT DOES THE MASTERPLAN CONTAIN?

The hierarchy of buildings allows for an objective assessment of all facilities in the city and an assessment of how important buildings are for the city in terms of parameters such as importance for the city and exposure. This makes it easier to determine which lighting-related investments are more priority. The three-level lighting hierarchy takes into account the results of the analysis and covers all architectural objects that play an important role in the night image of the city.

Unique city arrangements such as light paths are designed as needed. We design new events and other marketing activities in the same way. Thanks to this, the masterplan also becomes a tool for promoting the city.

Clear and clear recommendations and design assumptions in the form of illumination rules. They contain information such as object brightness levels, color temperatures, and the minimum value of the color rendering index for the light sources used. These are universal rules that can also be applied to new objects.
